Artist Spotlight: Randy Christensen

Updated: May 7

Art has power. The greatest motivation for change usually does not come from one's head, but one's heart. Art from the heart can reach out to the hearts of others.

Storytellers is pleased to have the multi-talented Randy Christensen join its Creatives Connect group.

Randy began clowning in 1980. He is a sought-after performer and instructor known for his unique heart and humor. Randy has served as the Clown Ministry Director for the World Clown Association. Randy has served on numerous leadership boards and councils, including the National Children's Ministry Agency's Advisory Committee for the Assemblies of God. He served as the BGMC (Boys & Girls Missionary Challenge) coach for the Minnesota Assemblies of God.

Randy is known for creating great experiences for all ages using multiple circus skills, music, magic, mime, and ventriloquism in a variety of venues. He performs at orphanages, hospitals, children's camps, public school assemblies, family-focused church events, libraries, circuses, fairs, and festivals. He has performed in 34 of the United States and also in England, Canada, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Spain, Ecuador, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Christensen believes that the arts are transformative:

I believe that the arts have a significant role in the transformation of people individually and also as a group. True art is an expression of the soul. That tangible expression connects to the souls of others. When the heart is touched by art, it is enriched or embittered or outraged or healed. It depends on the content of the art that's shared.

Randy has authored eighteen books on clowning, a variety of art methods, and children's ministry. He has over a hundred published articles in various children's ministry and entertainer publications. He is a past columnist for the notable "Laugh Makers" periodical, the official journal of the International Association of Family Entertainment Professionals, and currently writes for the "The Cross and the Clown." Mr. Christensen is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and has a B.A. in Pastoral Studies from North Central University. After 30 years of local church pastoral ministry, Randy travels full-time doing evangelism, school assemblies, and family events while also overseeing the children's and family ministries at Hillside Church in Mankato, MN. He is a husband and father of three grown "kids," who also are pursuing lives involved in full-time ministry. Learn more about Randy's creative ministry here.
